About Cango Caves

The Cango Caves form the largest show cave system in Africa. The caverns extend over 5 kilometers into the Precambrian limestone. Only a quarter of the system is open to the public. Visitors first entered the caves during the Early Stone Age.

Today, you must explore with a guide. You can view massive stalagmites like Cleopatra's Needle in the Heritage Chambers. Alternatively, you can tackle the physical Obstacle Course.

Read our guide on Heritage vs Adventure to decide which route suits your fitness level.

Lovely tour. Especially useful if you do not want to drive. Johan is very knowledgeable and managed to fit in everything we wanted to do.

Brilliant. Johann is a great tour guide: friendly, informative, helpful, interesting and a joy to be with. He flexed the tour to meet requests and timescales - thank you so much - making the tour super enjoyable. He drove very well and the vehicle was extremely comfy. I would highly recommend him … his tours are above and beyond

The Cango Caves was an out of the world experience- better than Vietnam and Australia. So were the visits to the Ostrich Farm and Animal Farm. Ken was extremely knowledgable and drove and guided us throughout the tour

We booked this tour as a private trip for the three of us, and it exceeded our expectations. Our driver, Maudi, was incredibly friendly, drove us safely throughout the journey, and shared so many interesting insights about South Africa, its culture, and its history. Thank you, Maudi, for making this such a memorable experience. We highly recommend this tour!

Despite once in a decade rain, Maudi, our guide worked hard to keep us on schedule, in good spirits and happy. We saw incredible animals, staid in lovely locally owned inns, explored caves and more. If you only have a few days to explore, this tour is worth it

We went deep into the caves on adventure, did kayaking, jungle safari, bungee jumping...all in one trip with our wonderful guide Ulrich in our 3-day trip. Well planned tour with ample stops, good company with people from across the globe in such a beautiful scenery.

We did the 2-day Garden Route tour with Gordon and it was great fun. We felt comfortable and safe at all times, and the personal interaction with Gordon was very pleasant, open and interesting. Thank you so much, Gordon, for these two wonderful days. We saw so many different animals on safari: elephants, cheetahs, giraffes, lions, hippos, rhinos, etc. And we could feed ostriches and giraffes - amazing!
